Board of Directors

The following members make up the CSI Compressco Board of Directors.

  • Ted Gardner

    Chairman

    Ted is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Silverhawk Capital Partners. Prior to founding Silverhawk, Ted served as Managing Partner of Wachovia Capital Partners (formerly, First Union Capital Partners). Prior to that, he served as Vice President and Shareholder in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of Kidder, Peabody & Company Incorporated in New York. Ted is currently a director of Incline Energy Partners, L.P., Kinder Morgan, Inc., Meridian Chemicals, and Spartan Energy Partners. He was previously a director of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, Athlon Energy, Summit Materials LLC, and Encore Acquisition Company.

    Ted earned a B.A. degree in Economics from Duke University and both a J.D. and an MBA from the University of Virginia.

  • John Jackson

    Director

    John is the Chief Executive Officer of CSI Compressco LP and has been the Chief Executive Officer of Spartan Energy Partners LP since its founding in 2010.  Prior to Spartan, John served as the Chairman and CEO of Price Gregory Services, Inc., a leading energy infrastructure services provider specializing in pipeline construction.  Prior to Price Gregory, John served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Hanover Compressor, now known as Exterran Corporation and Archrock, Inc. Prior to Hanover, he held several positions at Duke Energy Field Services, including Chief Financial Officer, and he also held various positions at Union Pacific Resources. John currently is a director of Seitel, Inc., a director of Main Street Capital Corp., and a director of Basic Energy in addition to his role with non-profits boards. He was previously a director of CNX Midstream Partners LP, a director of Select Energy Services, a director of RSH Energy, a director of Encore Energy Partners, and a director of Exterran Holdings, Inc.

    John earned a B.B.A. degree in Accounting from Baylor University.

  • Jonathan Byers

    Director

    Jon is the Chief Financial Officer of CSI Compressco LP.  Jon served as Vice President, Corporate Development of Spartan Energy Partners LP from its founding in 2010 until its acquisition of CSI Compressco GP LLC.  Prior to Spartan, Jon served as Vice President, Corporate Development for Price Gregory Services Inc, one of the largest pipeline construction companies in North America. He has also worked with SCF Partners (an energy focused investment firm) and General Atlantic (a global, growth focused private equity firm). Jon started his career with The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. in the Investment Banking Division.

    Jon earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

  • Robert Price

    Director

    Rob is the Chief Operating Officer of CSI Compressco LP and has been the Chief Operating Officer of Spartan Energy Partners LP since its founding in 2010.  Prior to Spartan, Rob served in several senior positions at Exterran, including Vice President, Latin America North and Vice President, N. A. Sales & Product Line Marketing.  Prior to Exterran, Rob served as Vice President, Latin America for Hanover Compressor, now known as Exterran Corporation and Archrock, Inc.  He also held various positions at Ariel and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

    Rob earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon.

  • Stephen Gill

    Independent Director

    Steve is the Chief Executive Officer of Lindsayca Solutions, an EPC firm specializing in production and processing facilities.  Prior to Lindsayca, Steve was the Chief Executive Officer of Valerus, a global provider of compression, production, and processing equipment and turnkey facilities.  Prior to Valerus, Steve served in various senior positions at Exterran and Hanover, including Vice President – International. He also held various positions at Ingersoll Rand & Dresser Rand.

    Steve earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

  • James R. Larson

    Independent Director

    James R. Larson has served as an independent director of our general partner and as Chairman of the Audit Committee of our general partner’s board since July 2011. Mr. Larson served as senior vice president of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation from September 2005 through his retirement in January 2006. From December 2003 through September 2005, Mr. Larson served as senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer of Anadarko. From 2002 through December 2003, Mr. Larson served as senior vice president, finance of Anadarko, where he oversaw treasury, investor relations, internal audits and acquisitions and divestitures. From 1995 through 2002, Mr. Larson served as vice president and controller of Anadarko, where he was responsible for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and tax functions. Until 1995, Mr. Larson held various other tax and financial positions with Anadarko after joining the company in 1981. Mr. Larson is presently a director of EV Energy Partners, L.P., a Houston-based publicly-traded limited partnership engaged in acquiring, producing and developing oil and gas properties. Mr. Larson is a current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Financial Executives International, the Tax Executives Institute and the National Association of Corporate Directors.

    James received his BBA degree in business from the University of Iowa.

  • Denise Essenberg

    Independent Director

    Denise is a retired Partner with PwC, retiring in June 2019 after 40 years serving numerous insurance clients across the property/casualty, life and health payor sectors of the insurance industry and advising on acquisitions, pre- and post-transaction integration issues, business divestitures and the adoption of new technologies.  Ms. Essenberg served as the managing partner of the PwC Grand Rapids and Hartford offices from 2003 to 2008 and 2008 to 2011, respectively, with oversight and responsibility for client service, office operations and resource management and was the audit transformation leader of PwC’s insurance practice from 2014 to 2019. Ms. Essenberg has served on the board of directors and as a member of its audit and compliance committee and finance committee of Health Alliance Plan of Michigan since January 2021 and as a member of the board of directors and audit committee chairperson of Atain Insurance Company and Atain Specialty Insurance Company since June 2020. 

    Denise received her BA from Michigan State University and attended the Kellogg School of Management Women’s Director Development Program at Northwestern University in 2015.

  • Michael Tucker

    Independent Director

    Michael Tucker is the Founder and Managing Partner of Orvieto Partners, L.P.  Mr. Tucker has 26 years of experience investing in the publicly traded debt and equity securities of companies in the gaming, lodging, leisure and energy sectors, and 28 years of experience in finance.    Before founding Orvieto Partners, Mr. Tucker was a Partner/Portfolio Manager at PAR Capital Management, Inc, a Boston-based long/short equity fund founded in 1990, which makes concentrated investments based on narrowly focused and rigorous fundamental research with a long-term orientation.  At PAR, he focused primarily on the equity and debt securities of companies that operate in the gaming, lodging, and leisure sectors while also opportunistically investing in the energy sector.  Prior to joining PAR Capital, Mr. Tucker was a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Andover Capital Advisors, LLC, a long-short hedge fund that made concentrated investments in the debt and equity securities of companies with levered capital structures. Before Andover Capital, Mr. Tucker worked at Standish Mellon Assets Management (formerly Standish, Ayer, & Wood, Inc.). He serves on the Providence College Business Advisory Council and the Men’s Basketball Vision Team.

    Michael is a graduate of Providence College and received an MBA from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. 

  • Joseph McElroy

    Independent Director

    Joe McElroy is a Managing Partner at Merced Capital, an opportunistic investment firm formed in 1988 by the founders of Cargill's Financial Markets Department. Joe serves as a director of several of Merced's portfolio companies. Before joining Merced in 2015, he invested capital in the debt and equity of public and private companies at CarVal Investors (a multi-billion dollar hedge fund founded in 1987) and private equity buyouts at Norwest Equity Partners (a multi-billion dollar private equity firm founded in 1961). Prior to his investing career, Joe advised businesses as a member of the Mergers and Acquisition Investment Banking Groups at Merrill Lynch in New York and Robert W. Baird in Chicago.

    Joe earned a B.B.A. degree in Finance, Investment, and Banking from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
